How to define Left Green Dragon and Right White Tiger in Feng Shui?

The study of Yang House (dwelling for people who are alive) in Feng Shui is profound, but its principles are actually quite simple. Many people spend ages fussing over things like Flying Stars, Qi arrangement, the Nine Palaces and Eight Trigrams, and end up confusing themselves, when in reality, it’s not that complicated. Now, everyone should remember one key point: over thousands of years, Chinese culture has always emphasised the concept of “image” (象). Once the image changes, the numbers change accordingly; when the numbers change, the fortune of the household shifts as well. It’s really that simple.
So, when you look at Yang House, don’t be intimidated by those so called Feng Shui masters who waved a compass about and pretend to be mysterious. If you grasp the basic principles, you can be a master yourself. Today, we’re discussing homes that “become more prosperous the longer you live in them.” Many people wonder how to get rich, how to make money. In fact, it’s quite simple: if you get your home environment right, wealth will come in naturally. This isn’t superstition—it’s environmental science, it’s proper science, and it’s the wisdom of our ancestors. If you look at wealthy people, their home environment is always extremely comfortable, and the Qi flows smoothly.
When it comes to homes that attract wealth, you must understand the concept of “Left Green Dragon, Right White Tiger.” This idea is absolutely crucial. Whether you’re building a house, buying one, or simply decorating your own home, this rule never changes. It’s the most basic and central guideline in Yang House studies.

Let’s define what the “Green Dragon” side is. It’s very simple: stand in the centre of your house, facing the main door—remember, you must face the main door. The entire area to your left is the so-called Green Dragon side, and to your right is, of course, the White Tiger side! In Yang House, the Green Dragon side represents the male owner, official career, benefactors, and also the wealth that comes in. So, think about it—is this position important? Of course it is! Whether the male owner of your home is successful, can earn money, or gets help from others, you can tell by looking at the Dragon side of your house.
The basic information we provide says that the Green Dragon position is on the east side of the residence, which is the general view. The east is the Zhen trigram, representing the eldest son and the place where Yang energy rises. So, placing the Green Dragon in the east is the theoretical basis, and that’s correct. However, everyone should be flexible—not every house faces south. In modern cities, houses face all sorts of directions, so the simplest way to locate it is what I just taught: stand in the centre of the house, facing the main door, and the left side is the Green Dragon. Don’t worry about east, south, west, or north—just stick to this principle and you won’t go wrong. This is called “setting the image,” simple and practical.
